My role focused on building relationships with community members and organizations, planning outreach efforts, and supporting the team with events. I also developed accessibility toolkits, researched opportunities that aligned with our objectives, and collaborated with community members to foster inclusivity and work towards ensuring accessibility for Deaf, Blind, and Neurodiverse individuals. Favourite Book: 11 Words for Love, by Randa Abdel-Fattah and Maxine Beneba Clarke.
I was brought on as podcast producer, however, that changed to audio editor as the project evolved. I created an audio only version of the Connect Project film, wrote audio descriptions for the Connect Project film, as well as the audio introduction for our audio documentary/piece. I produced several working versions of the audio documentary/piece, combining voice actors and sound effects. Favourite Song: These Important Years by Husker Du.
I first participated in a focus group about the project. I then began helping by describing the objects made by the artists. I also helped with the audio description of the film. I voiced the role of string for the audio documentary. I am totally blind so appreciate whenever audio description is offered and really loved the creative ways this project used for this. Insightful Statement: “If you get people together in one place who can all explain their access needs and talk together about solutions, this is wonderful and works extremely well.”
